On Monday 10 June International IDEA will host an informal round-table discussion with the Commission on Human Security at International IDEA's headquarters, Strömsborg on the theme 'Democracy and Human Security'. The seminar will run 16.00-18.00. The seminar will gather 11 of the Commission's 12 members including co-chairs Sadako Ogata and Amartya Sen, along with Swedish and other Nordic opinion-makers. Ambassador Thorvald Stoltenberg, Chairman of the Board of International IDEA, will chair the discussion. The Commission is meeting in Stockholm 8-10 June at the invitation of the Swedish Government. The seminar at International IDEA will focus on how the enhancement of political participation and democratic processes can contribute to human security, and the contemporary challenges of democracy promotion. The objective is to exchange views on issues relevant to human security and democracy, and to create a network of advocates for the core concept of human security.
