Seminar details (English)

An international seminar on 'Money and Electoral Contests: Challenges for Democracy' will be held 6-8 June 2001, jointly organized by: International IDEA; the UN; IFES; Elections Canada; the Spanish Ministry of the Interior; the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation of Mexico; and the Electoral Federal Institute of Mexico.

The seminar's objectives are:

  • To contribute to the study of the challenges, problems and threats linked to the increasing amounts and influence of money in the design and undertaking of the electoral contests;
  • To assess and compare international representative models and experiences of funding and surveillance of political parties, electoral campaigns and candidates; and
  • To identify and explore options for granting better equity, transparency, legality and trust-worthiness to the regulation and surveillance of the resources managed by political parties and candidates.
