Seminar on Political/Electoral Reform

The Government of Colombia asked International IDEA to provide expert assistance for or-ganizing an advisory seminar on political/electoral reform. This took place 12 - 14 March 2001 in Bogota. It was co-organized by International IDEA, the IDB, the Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency, the Government of Colombia and the Colombian National Congress. The general objective of the seminar was a comparative assessment of a political reform project shortly to be discussed in the Colombian Congress. The main topics were: Electoral Systems; Funding of Political Campaigns; and the Strengthening and Internal Democratization of Political Parties and Groups. Congressmen, government officials, political leaders and civil society representatives participated in the three sessions of the seminar.
