What is a discussion forum?

A discussion forum on the Internet is simply a place where views or ideas can be expressed in an interactive manner. Anyone who wishes to may write a comment or opinion and make it available for public viewing, using the tools included in the discussion forum. Once the comment has been posted, others may respond to it or post comments of their own. As participation in the forum grows, a series of interactive dialogues develop. Some topics will result in long chains of comment and response; others, perhaps because they are less striking or pertinent, may provoke no discussion at all. In every case, the dialogue is defined by the individual participants who choose to enter the discussion.

Joining the discussion requires no special software and no registration. All you need to do is to find a topic that interests you and either post a new comment, question, or idea, or contribute to an already ongoing discussion.

Registration, which is not required but encouraged, will allow you to edit your posts after you have sent them, and to receive email notification when someone responds to a topic you have posted.

Should you have any additional questions on how to become involved, please contact Jimm Lerch, Forum Co-ordinator at j.lerch@idea.int.
