Dr Mark Thompson was Balkans Program Director of the International Crisis Group until early May. The author of "A Paper House. The Ending of Yugoslavia" (1992) and "Forging War. The Media in Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina" (1999), he has worked for missions of the UN and the OSCE in the Balkans.
